ireward-chartiReward Chart is a utilitarian app that helps parents reward good behavior with stars that kids can cash in for a series of fun monetary and experiential rewards.  Kids can lose stars too, though here’s hoping they won’t.

If you’ve got a star chart front and center on your fridge right now, this might be the app for you.  But if you believe that setting the table consistently and without complaint is just part of the deal, take a pass.  It all comes down to your parenting style.

Also, every kid is different.  Some will go for a complex reward system based on delayed gratification, some won’t.  My kids (who wouldn’t potty train until they were ready for all the M&Ms in the world) are in the latter column.

Why we like it:

Customize your kids’ profile with profile photos, goals, and rewards.  Or choose from the included lists (sample goals cover manners, homework, whining, and sharing, sample rewards range from pocket money and extra bedtime stories to sleepovers and trips to the zoo.

There’s a valuable saving and budgeting lesson here too since kids spend their stars directly through the app and can’t exceed their “income”.

Since it’s not web-based, two parents (or caregivers) can’t share a single account.  So if your kid is polite, helpful, and responsible when you’re not around, they won’t get credit.  Unless the other person issues them an IOU.  Also this app might be a little abstract for very young kids since the stats aren’t posted and public.

    Hi All,

This is great website! I recently came across “ABC Pop” on the iPhone which is also an awesome app for kids to learn alphabets. My son loves it and plays for hours and hours. The star based system keeps him busy and motivated to play even more.

    “ABC Pop”
    Thanks,
    Tony Kingston
